How to Get Rid of Dark Eye Circles For Good

Posted by Sara Barrett on Dec 2, 2016 9:41:00 AM

describe the imageALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN

Because the skin beneath your eyes is so thin, it's especially prone to sun-induced hyperpigmentation (and skin cancer). But sunscreen can also be especially irritating if it gets in your eyes. Use a nondrippy or stick formula that won't migrate.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT MAKEUP REMOVER

When you rub your skin to pry off your liner, you're causing inflammation and capillary damage—both of which can contribute to dark circles. Cleansing oils, like melt eye makeup with the least amount of rubbing. As a bonus, you'll lose fewer lashes, too.

COOL DOWN

Washing your face with hot water worsens puffiness and can accentuate dark circles.

GET A PROFESSIONAL LASER TREATMENT

To reduce bluish and red discoloration under the eyes, lasers can help by constricting visible blood vessels.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT EYE SHADOW

A shimmering nude cream or powder shadow can brighten up your eyes, as long as it's a touch darker than your skin tone. If it's lighter, it looks frosty and dated.

USE FILLERS AS A MORE PERMANENT SOLUTION

consult silk touch

At the first signs of hollowing, using a filler such as hyaluronic acid or fat can help to fill in the spots that appear in the tear troughs. Fillers like Artefill are extremely effective in filling deficient areas under the eyes when it is injected deep into the tissue. Artefill is different from temporary injectable wrinkle fillers. The unique microspheres in Artefill are not absorbed by the body and provide the support your skin needs for natural, long lasting results.

The patient below came to us with concerns about the hollowness of hers eyes, something that has bothered her for as long as she can remember! Dr. Kerr used Bellafill under the eyes and in the tear trough. The end result? No more looking tired! If you are wary about using a permanent filler, other injectables can be used to get the same result.

5 Solutions for Sun Damaged Skin

Posted by Sara Barrett on Apr 28, 2016 11:43:00 AM

SunDamBlog

Although you can’t turn back the clock and abstain from the sun in the past, you can erase some of the damage that was done. Professional skin care treatments can help remove the skin’s damaged outer layers to diminish sun spots and encourage the growth of new, healthy collagen to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

1. Chemical peels.

Chemical peel treatments are a good option for bringing new life to sun-damaged skin. These peels utilize various solutions and strengths for different treatment levels and results. At Silk Touch Med Spa, our medical aestheticians customize the chemical peel treatment for each client, along with planning a structured treatment regimen. Most light-to-medium peels will require at least 3-6 treatments over a three-month period to see the best results.
Chemical peelscan vary in strength, ranging from very minor solutions that require little to no downtime, to stronger peels that may require a few days to heal. Make sure to discuss any upcoming events or work restrictions with your aesthetician.

2. Intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial.

IPL treatments have become very popular as a tool to erase sun spots and fine lines. An IPL photofacial uses a series of gentle light pulses that target the pigment present in sun spots, as well as other color irregularities. As the light travels through the layers of skin, heat from the light causes damage to the abnormally pigmented areas. This will kick-start the body’s natural healing process. The spot will either become darker and flake off, or it will be naturally absorbed by the body. IPL photofacials also stimulate collagen growth to reduce fine lines.
For the average client, three-to-five IPL photofacial treatments are required for best results, and most clients can be treated as frequently as every three weeks. Throughout the course of the treatment process, you can expect to see improved skin texture and a smoother, more even complexion.

3. C02 Fractional laser.

Dot Therapy skin before after1 300x232For a more aggressive treatment for sun damage, there are  C02 fractional laser procedures. A C02 treats sun spots, wrinkles and fine lines with the use of a laser beam that is split (fractionated) into thousands of microscopic beams of light energy. The pixilated light penetrates the dermis and generates enough heat to stimulate natural collagen production and new cell growth. In addition to reducing the appearance of sun damage, fractional lasers can also help treat acne scars, stretch marks and melasma.
Most clients will see results after one to two treatments.

4. Pelleve Radiofrequency.

Treatments that harness the power of radiofrequency waves are also very effective for helping remove sun spots, reduce wrinkles and tighten skin. A Pelleve radiofrequency treatment works by sending heat energy into the dermal layer of the skin to stimulate the production of collagen. Unlike lasers, Pelleve treatments rely on the absorption of radio waves and not light, which makes these services safe for all skin tones.
Pelleve is also great in combonation with IPL's for both skin tightening and sun spot reduction. This month get a free Pelleve Eye Treatment with a purchase of your IPL Series. Click here to learn more about this special offer

5. Products Containing Hydroquinone.

Hydroquinone is a topical treatment used to lighten skin. It works by inhibiting the production of tyrosinase, which is an enzyme that helps to produce melanin.
When used alone, hydroquinone treatments may not show visible results for several weeks. To see faster results and improve the effectiveness of this treatment, you can combine hydroquinone with a regimen of chemical peels and/or light-based procedures.
At Silk Touch we carry a wide range of products that can help improve the appearance of sun damaged Skin. We suggest scheduling a  Complimentary Skin Analysis to determine which customized product regimen will be most effective for you.

Where you live can help determine how prone your skin is to wrinkles. Where does your home state rank?

In order to determine the states in which residents are most prone to damage caused by lifestyle, occupational and environmental factors, RoC Skincare partnered with independent research firm Sperling’s Best Places to release the second annual Wrinkle Ranking.

The study performed a state-by-state assessment, which included examining the following factors:

  • UV exposure;
  • Geographical elevation;
  • Daily commute times;
  • Stress levels; and
  • Ozone pollution.

The top five factors contributing to wrinkles in each state are highlighted in the infographic below.

Makeup That's Good For Your Skin

Posted by Sara Barrett on Mar 25, 2015 2:01:00 PM

url 4Did you know there is makeup that is actually GOOD for your skin? We're not joking.

At Silk Touch, we love anything and everything to with beauty and healthy skin. Especially when you combine the two. But anyone who wears makeup knows that not all makeup is good for your skin. In fact, some brands can cause a whole slew of skin problems. Which is why we are obsessed with the entire Jane Iredale makeup line – the first line of makeup that actually has skin care benefits.

Jane Iredale founded the company in 1994. She was the first to supply this industry with a line of makeup that had skin care benefits.

Jane was inspired to develop a makeup that was good for the skin by her career in the entertainment industry where she saw actresses and models struggling with the ill-effects of the many kinds of makeup they wore. Her experience in working with women whose careers depended on a clear complexion allowed her to see how skin disorders and sensitivities not only threatened careers, but also destroyed self-confidence.

Jane has always thought of makeup as an essential part of a woman's sense of well-being and she wanted to make that easy to achieve.  That's why her mineral powders are a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen all in one, and why every product in the line is multi-functional.  Her goal is to make products that look good, feel good and are good for the skin.  Products must be easy to apply, as well, so that a woman can be her best in the shortest amount of time.

Jane Iredale offers a wide variety of products for the face, eyes, cheeks and lips. Including special bronzers, BB creams, hydration sprays, makeup starter kits & more.

At Silk Touch we are very selective with the product lines we carry, and we have been nothing short of impressed with the quality of products and color selection from Jane Iredale. This is truly the perfect makeup for any skin type – dry, oily, sensitive and aging.

Interested in learning more about Jane Iredale? Request a makeup consultation by calling 208.939.3110 or stop on by to play around with some samples at our new makeup station located in reception.

Are Your Hands Making You Look Older?

Posted by Sara Barrett on Jan 26, 2015 12:43:00 PM

img1Have your hands betrayed you?

You use your hands for a lot of things – and chances are, you also use your hands to reveal your age. In fact, a study published in The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, participants accurately estimated a woman’s age just by looking at her hands.

A lot of women spend time and energy focusing on making their faces and necks look younger, but ignore their hands. Daily sun exposure, constant movement and even just letting hands become dry and exacerbate crepiness, dark spots and prominent veins.

By starting to pay a little attention to your hands, you can prevent and even start to reverse some of the damage.

Exfoliate & Moisturize

Gently buff the backs of your hands 2-3 times a month. This will help remove dry, dead skin so that moisturizers can better penetrate the skin. Then be sure to regularly slather on the hand lotion.

Prevent Sun Damage

Hands are exposed to the sun practically 365 days a year. And even the people who consistently protect their faces with SPF typically neglect their hands. Overtime, sunlight breaks down skin’s collagen and elastin, causing wrinkles a crepey texture and a yellow or brown spots.

Make sure to apply a SPF 30 to your face and hands DAILY. Check out our top 5 sunscreens here.

Build Collagen

Simply applying a retinol cream on the backs of the hands every night will help to boost collagen.  Increase collagen not only reduces wrinkles, it can also camouflage prominent veins cause by a loss of the hands natural fat. Retinol can be drying, so make sure to add your regular moisturizer or hand cream on top.

Consider a Professional Treatment Route

If you want fast, more dramatic results, put your hands in the hands of experts.  Laser treatments, such as IPL (intense pulsed light), can help reduce age/sun spots and can improve the overall complexion of your hands.

Fillers and fat transfer can be also be used for overall hand rejuvenation.  The increase in volume helps with wrinkles and the appearance of veins and tendons.  For particularly large veins, sclerotherapy treatments can be very effective.

Are you over exfoliating?

Posted by Sara Barrett on Dec 22, 2014 12:05:00 PM

exfoliationStop that! Are you over exfoliating?

File this one under the way-too-much-of-a-good-thing category. Many women inadvertently give themselves problem skin by exfoliating too hard and too often.

Why does over-exfoliating matter?

You risk your skin and stripping off the top layer. That’s not all: When you rob your skin of needed moisture, it responds as if it were an injury and produces more oil, which often results in acne.

Over-exfoliating can also break blood vessels, causing redness.  To avoid self-sabotage, use a face scrub or sponge only once or twice a week, or not at all, if you’re using retinoid or glycolic acids. And when you dry your face, remember to blot gently to avoid further damaging your skin.

Treatments that exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin:

Microdermabrasions use a small hand-piece to exfoliate the outer layer of the skin and improve its tone, texture and clarity. Microdermabrasions are safe for all skin types and there is no downtime involved.

Chemical Peels give a topical exfoliation. The chemical peel is designed to remove the top layer of the skin, revealing the fresh, young skin underneath. There are many options when it comes to chemical peels, each developed to treat specific skin conditions.

Microneedling also provides similar benefits to mechanical exfoliation. Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is quickly gaining popularity as the go-to treatment for skin rejuvenation. The difference between this treatment and the other methods is that there is no removal of the outer layers of skin. The premise of microneedling is to create a controlled wound response in the skin to stimulate growth factors without abrading the epidermis.

How To Shrink Your Pores

Posted by Sara Barrett on Dec 11, 2014 3:10:00 PM

pores on faceMinimize The Look Of Pores

While pore size is not always the biggest area of concern when it comes to skin care, we have seen an increase in patients who want to “make my pores look smaller.”

What makes pores look bigger?

Genetics determine pore size, as do skin type and age. If your skin is oily, and that oil gets trapped inside the pores, it oxidizes and turns dark. Overtime, especially if you’ve had a lot of sun exposure in the past – you start to lose the collagen and elastin that support the pores. They begin to stretch and sag around the edges, which can make them look bigger.

While you can’t shrink our pores with any permanency, the right skin-care products and treatments can help keep the skin clear and tight – making them less noticeable.

Ways to make pores look smaller

Before cleansing the skin, make sure to exfoliate.  Exfoliation is key to a clear and vibrant complexion.

If you have tried over-the-counter products and still aren’t seeing any results – it may be time for a visit to your aesthetician. When a patient’s pores are very clogged with blackheads and whiteheads – they can make the pores a lot more apparent.

Products

Prescription retinoid creams exfoliate pores and flush them of oil and build-up, which makes pores appear smaller. Retinol is FDA approved to protect against signs of photoaging, which contributes to the dilation of pores over time – it’s like killing two birds with one stone.

Treatments

A round of treatments is often the answer for those whose pores are so severely clogged that even prescriptions don’t help. For some, lasers and peels are most effective at minimizing pores.

IPL (Intense pulse light therapy) can make pores look smaller. The lights reach deep into the skin and stimulates collagen production.  With IPL they are able to penetrate deep enough into the layers of the skin without harming the surface layers. IPL takes about 30 minutes and there is little to no downtime involved.

Chemical Peels. Another great way to minimize pores is with peels. Peels are one the best ways to exfoliate the skin, and you’ll see your pores shrink right away in addition to many other benefits. Depending on the type of peel your aesthetician recommends – peels can help with acne, complexion and texture issues as well as overall anti-aging affects.

Can you get rid of pores completely?

Pores are a vital part of the skin, and getting rid of them completely is impossible.  However, with the right skin care routine, you can minimize the appearance of pores dramatically.

The #1 Way You Are Aging Your Skin

Posted by Sara Barrett on Jul 2, 2014 2:06:00 PM

silk touchWhile no one can stop aging, we can slow down the aging process by taking care of our skin through maintenance and preventative measures. One particular preventative measure is the most important, but also the most neglected..

The No. 1 way you’re aging your skin? You may have guessed it already…. Not wearing enough sunscreen daily.

The sun is the primary cause of skin aging. The sun can reach you on cloudy, rainy, or snowy days as well. Skin-damaging UV rays can penetrate through glass, so you need to apply sun protection even indoors.

Is it safe? Black Market Aesthetics On The Rise

Posted by Sara Barrett on Jun 26, 2014 2:43:00 PM

botox 300x230 IF THE PRICE SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE... IT PROBABLY IS!

Recently many advertisers have been offering steep discounts on Botox and Dermal Filler prices. Some people have even seen Botox advertised on Craigslist (SCARY!!).  While everyone enjoys a good deal, when it comes to Botox and Fillers, you should be extremely careful. If you come across pricing that is extremely low, you could be buying illegally imported “Botox” or Fillers from Canada, Europe or even China. These products are not safe to use.

Liquid facelifts rank among the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures, but the growing demand for toxins and fillers has triggered a rise in illegal injectable products that has become a worldwide epidemic. The availability and use of fake products has emerged as a mounting problem for the aesthetic market as a whole, as doctors report that they are being inundated with offers from offshore vendors pitching cheap toxins and fillers not approved for sale in the EU or the US.

Don’t risk your beauty by being injected with un-safe product from sources unknown.

When it comes to your beauty treatments, injector experience and reputation is crucial. At Silk Touch, we guarentee that we only use verified products from reputible vendors.
