How To Prevent and Treat Lip Lines

Posted by Sara Barrett on Sep 22, 2014 5:01:00 PM

NaturalLips

Sometimes the smallest problems can contribute a great deal to an aging look.

Lip lines, also called smokers’ lines, are those little vertical fissures above your upper lip. Most women get them as the years pass, whether they smoke or not. The process is the same as it is for all facial aging: the skin loses tone and elasticity on the surface while the volume under the skin diminishes. The result is a wrinkled, sunken look.

What causes lip lines?

1. Sun Exposure

Are you surprised with this one? It seems those UV rays always take the blame for aging. Even on the coldest day, we still get UV exposure. The only way to help with the aging affects of sun exposure? You guessed it - stay out of the sun and lather up on sunscreen every single day!

2. Smoking

In addition to all the other scary health issues that come with smoking - the repeated motion of puckering up causes the tiny grooves in the skin above your lips to form more quickly, and to become more pronounced.

3. Straws

Though this has not been scientifically proven - many medical sources say that the frequent use of straws can cause lip lines to form sooner. The same is said about kissing - but you may want to weigh the benefits on that one. :-)

4. Aging

The one thing none of us can do anything about? Aging. Sort of. There are plenty of lifestyle changes that can help prevent of slow down the appearance of lines around the upper lip. Moisturize, drink plenty of water, use a Retinol, get enough sleep and eat a healthy diet.

How to Treat Lip Lines

If your genetic code or past-sun exposure or smoking has resulted in lines to your upper-lip, there are many steps you can take to minimize and even completely erase their appearance.

Is Voluma The Right Choice For Me?

Posted by Sara Barrett on Jun 12, 2014 12:13:00 PM

Before and After Oxnard Ventura JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC

We wanted to share with you a real experience from a patient who tried Voluma for the first time.

Is Voluma Right For Me?

So... the stars admit to doing it, but is Voluma right for me? When I first heard about Voluma, a new facial filler that produces results that can last up to two years, I was intrigued, as I had reached a point where I felt it was time to take a more aggressive step toward slowing down the aging process. I also had a lot of questions… Would the treatment make my face look puffy?  What are the side effects?  Does is it hurt?

I’ve always had a round face, and in my teens and twenties I was an expert at using makeup to “add contour.” Then I hit my mid-40s, and suddenly, check bones.  But not in a good way.

My face was thinning, and I did not like the hollows I was seeing.  The loss of volume in my cheek area was making me look drawn and angular, and I realized that the curves I had worked to correct were actually what gave my face a more youthful appearance.

I had heard about facial fillers, but did not like the idea of having to go back after six months for a touch up.  Psychologically it was a big step for me to try any kind of treatment, and if I was going to commit, I wanted the results to last. Voluma seemed to offer what I was looking for.

No It Does Not Make Your Face Look Fat

Voluma, I learned, would likely cause temporary swelling after treatment, as well as some tenderness and possible slight bruising at the injection site.  As far as my concerns of looking overfilled, I was reassured that Voluma produces natural-looking results, and that they take a less is more” approach to treatment. I was sold.

At my treatment, I was nervous, but gradually relaxed when I realized that each Voluma injection felt no worse than a slight pinch. The entire treatment was completed in less than 30 minutes.

Results

When they handed me a mirror, I immediately saw a change. The curves have been restored to my cheeks, making my face looked softer, and with the deep hollows gone, my expression looks less tired.  It is a subtle – but definite – difference.

I did have a bit of swelling, which went away after two days, and some very faint bruising in a few spots that was easily covered with foundation.  I can honestly say I love my results. I feel like I’ve had a much needed boost, and superficial or not, it has made me feel more confident.  Best of all, I am thrilled to know I can enjoy the results of my Voluma treatment for up to 24 months.

Under the right injector, Filler and Botox can keep you looking as ageless and natural as these Hollywood stars.

Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren looks better than ever! Her Botox and filler is placed to make her look very natural. Lines around the eyes have been reduced with Botox. And her lip lines were treated with filler. Most likely she has had sun-damage correction using CO2 Fractional Laser or IPL treatments.

As we age, we lose the volume in our face that gave us our youthful look. Long lasting filler like Artefill can revolumize, giving the face a more full, smoother appearance.

The key is to be consistant with injections, but wait until the majority of results have worn off before re-injecting. This way, you don't have to regress back to your baseline or start from scratch with each session.

How to Get Rid of Smile Lines with Restylane

Posted by Sara Barrett on Nov 19, 2013 3:42:00 PM

restylane smile lines

As we age, lines begin to develop at the corners of the nose and extend down toward the mouth and beyond, often giving the appearance that we are much older than we really are. Known as nasolabial folds or marionette lines, these medium-to-deep facial creases are primarily caused by a loss of facial fat and less elastic skin, coupled with sun exposure and genetics.

With a quick, simple in-office treatment, you can add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, taking years off of your appearance in less than 30 minutes.

Restylane works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane is specifically formulated to act like your body's own hyaluronic acid, and eventually breaks down naturally.

This month only – when you buy one syringe of Restylane you get a 2nd syringe, ABSOLUTELY FREE. Click Here to Claim The Offer.

Botox Vs. Fillers - When to Use Both

Posted by Sara Barrett on Jul 1, 2013 3:19:00 PM

When it comes to the fight against fine lines there are seemingly endless options for giving your appearance a more youthful look.

We’ve all heard of Botox thanks to the popularities of celebrities who use it, but what about fillers, the other option for smooth, line-free skin? If you’re not sure what the difference is, or how to tell which option is best for you, we are here to help!

botox fillers boise

When to Use To Botox

One of the most familiar ways to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, is Botox Cosmetic. These treatments work by causing facial muscles to relax temporarily. Botox effectively treats frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, lip lines, and many other wrinkles that result from facial expression.

You’ve seen how Botox can take years off your favorite stars (and maybe even a few or your friends), but is it right for you? The advantages speak for themselves. Botox is an excellent treatment for many types of patients. Someone in their late 20s or early 30s might choose Botox to help prevent wrinkles and enhance their complexion. Older patients may opt for the treatment to soften existing lines and prevent new ones from forming, she explains. In truth nearly every cosmetic patient can benefit from Botox as a component of his or her cosmetic treatment and maintenance plan. Most importantly, Botox has an excellent established safety record and is the most popular cosmetic procedure worldwide.

What about Fillers?

Like Botox, fillers are an injectable treatment used to tackle some of the most frustrating signs of aging, but unlike Botox they don’t relax facial muscles, but instead work to fill creases and restore volume to our face (we lose volume at an accelerating rate after age 30). Soft tissue fillers can be used to restore a semblance of youth through the replacement of lost tissue volume well as filling folds and wrinkles. Whether you want Angelina Jolie’s luscious lips, or you’re hoping to rid you face of frown lines, there’s a filler that can help. Silk Touch Med Spa carries a wide array of the best fillers available to meet each individuals concerns and needs.

Botox and fillers: Can you get both?

While you might think that Botox and fillers can only be used separately, they’re actually better together (kind of like chocolate and peanut butter, or strawberries and champagne). Botox is often used in conjunction with fillers (and even lasers) to enhance the overall results of those treatments. Botox and fillers are a perfect combination.

Botox and fillers perform differently, so a combination of those treatment works better than either treatment alone. Botox paralyzes the underlying facial muscle, while fillers plump the skin and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Together they provide the most soft and natural looking improvement in facial appearance and age related cosmetic concerns. In many cases soft tissue filler will last longer when used with Botox. During an initial consultation at Silk Touch, our expert injectors will help form a individualized treatment plan that is right for you and your budget.

Between Botox and fillers you should have no trouble finding a skin smoothing solution that works for you. Wrinkles and fine lines don’t stand a chance against either, and if you really want a put stop to aging skin — use a combination of both.

Are you ready to try both?

This month we are offering a FREE Botox Treatment* when you purchase a Filler.

Posted by Sara Barrett on Feb 28, 2013 10:16:00 AM

Finally – a long lasting solution for wrinkle correction!

Silk Touch Med Spa in Boise is proud to be the first in Idaho to carry Artefill, a permanent facial filler that lasts more than 5 years. With this long lasting derma filler it is all about confidence. Confidence in Artefill as a product, confidence in the results and restoring new confidence in yourself.

If you have used temporary wrinkle fillers in the past, then you know that they are eventually absorbed by your body and require frequent repeat injections to maintain the appearance you’ve come to love. The good news is, Artefill is different from temporary injectable wrinkle fillers. The unique microspheres in Artefill are not absorbed by the body and provide the support your skin needs for natural, long lasting results. Upon injection, the collagen in Artefill visibly reduces the wrinkles right away and the microspheres provide support for your skin. Your body’s own collagen works together with the microspheres to provide long lasting, natural feeling wrinkle reduction.

Using Fillers to Provide the Chin Change You've Been Looking For

Posted by Shannon Morgan on Aug 17, 2012 10:55:00 AM

If you're considering a chin implant but you're not sure you're ready for full-fledged surgery, you may want to try the injectable option first.

Juvederm, Artefill and even your own fat can all be used in the chin and jaw with results that last from a few months to many years, depending on the one you choose. Artefill, the latest filler to hit the market, has results that can last more than 5 years!

Our wide array of fillers can also be used in many ways to address your individual concerns, whether you're looking to augment your chin without surgery, fill in marionette lines, lift up jowls, or plump up volume along the jaw line where youthful definition has been lost.  Juvederm is even great for achieving full, plump lips!

Botox is also a great tool for improving the aesthic appearance of the chin. In fact, there are many people that unknowingly contract their chin muscles. This can cause a pebbling ordimpling of the skin overlying the chin. Some Botox injected in this muscle will relax the muscle and allow the soft tissue of the chin to move forward almost effectively as a chin implant.

There are many upsides to injectable fillers like Juvederm, Artefill and Botox. Patients often prefer the natural look of fillers verse the intrusive and often painful plastic surgery options. However, one of the downsides of injectables, and a concern we address with many of our clients, is the potential for temporary swelling and brushing.

The good news is that as the use of fillers continues to progress in what they can do, so do the technologies that go along with how they are injected – more precise instruments with smaller puncture marks that lead to a less chance of bruising and swelling.

As for other methods to keep bruising at bay: Prep yourself for a couple of weeks before your scheduled procedure. It is best to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and all other NSAIDS for two weeks prior to the procedure. In the end, the bruising and temporary swelling in fact temporary and is often minimal or even non existent in some patients. The healing time is a fraction of the time it takes to recover from invasive surgeries like facelifts and chin implants.

Ant-aging: How to get younger looking hands.

Posted by Shannon Morgan on Jul 13, 2012 10:30:00 AM

We spend time and money trying to make the skin on our face look younger, but we often neglect the skin on our hands. Unfortunately, that's what tends to give away our age.

Like rings in a tree trunk - lines, creases, dark spots, and bulging veins on the back of your hands are the sneaky little tattletales that give away your age!

Dermatoligist Norma Narnins says that “hands are frequently exposed to sunlight and all it photoaging effects. While we would never consider exposing our face to sun without sun block , we often don’t remember to treat our hands the same way.”

In order to keep your hands looking at youthful as you feel, it is important to use a sunblock with with SPF15 or higher everyday, even if you think your hands will not be getting that much sun exposure. That means in the winter time too, ladies! Try and choose a moisturizer that contains SPF that way you are getting your daily sun protectant and your moisturizing all from one product.
Newbeauty.com recently shared a video where they interviewed Coral Gables, FL, dermatologist Flor Mayoral, MD, to find out how to get our hands back in tip-top shape with the use of treatments such as radio-frequency, injectables and topical products. Watch the video to see what she says.

We do all of the procedures mentioned in the above video and more. Depending on the condition of your hands there are several popular treatment options available.

hands, silk touch med spa, fat transfer

At Silk Touch Med Spa, we individualize each treatment using a combination of approaches to achieve the most observable results.

Dr. Brian Kerr can fill also fill in the hands by using either the patients own fat (fat transfers) or dermal fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse and Artefill.

Injectable Fillers or Plastic Surgery - What Is The Best Option?

Posted by Susan Kerr on Jun 8, 2012 1:48:00 PM

When making changes to your appearance or dealing with a facial concern – it is a very serious and personal choice. In addition to feeling comfortable with the physician you choose, the treatment you choose is just as important. How do you decide between getting surgery or facial fillers?

There are a handful of factors that go in to deciding what kind of treatment you’ll need. There is a time and a place for injectables, as there is a time and place for plastic surgery. It is our opinion that Plastic Surgery shouldn't  be considered as first response to sagging skin and wrinkles.   Here at Silk Touch Medspa we highly recommend doing facial fillers first over plastic surgery because volume is what is most often needed.  Once the skin is volumized, many of the patient's concerns are eliminated.  At Silk Touch Medspa, we have several treatments to choose from – Botox, Juvederm, Radiesse, and the new long-lasting filler Artefill. We have something for everyone. We have fillers that go deeper, last longer, aren’t as superficial and come in a variety of consistencies and strengths.

But, while we suggest fillers over surgery we understand that in some cases fillers just aren’t the answer. Face fillers can treat certain lines and wrinkles, but are not a plausible solution for everything. For example, if someone has a tremendous amount of excess skin in the neck area, they’re going to need a neck lift. Also, if your upper eye lids are drooping excessively, an eye lift may be your best choice.

Artefill is a new filler that does amazing work and can last up to 5 years! Look at these results for Dr.Kerr
