Can You Get Liposuction on Your Knees?

Posted by Stephanie Cook (Patient Care Coordinator) on Jan 9, 2017 11:00:00 AM

If you’ve ever looked down and wished you had thinner knees - we can help! Some people due to genetics have the tendency to hold onto fat around the knee area. Liposuction of the knees can reduce extra fat and sculpt the knees to proportinally match your natural leg shape. Dr. Kerr of Silk Touch is one of only a few Doctors in the world that will work on knees. So if you’re looking for thinner knees- you’ve definitely found the right place with Dr. Kerr and Silk Touch Med Spa.

Who is a candiate?

Not everyone who thinks their knees are “fatty” is necessarily candidate for liposuction on the knees. As these are a difficult area, we request clients to come in for a consultation or to send photos first for evaluation. See the before and after photo below as an example for a Knee lipo candidate:

What is the procedure like?

After your intial consultation, you will come in for a pre-op with Dr. Kerr several days before your procedure. We will go over pre/post op insturctions as well as medications and any new questions you might have. The actual procedure is usually done in about three hours. After the procedure, compression socks will have to worn for two weeks. Lower legs can often take longer to heal since they are gravity dependant and the furthest from the heart. Dr. Kerr tells his liposuction patients that they will feel 80% at the end of week one and 90% at the end of week two, add two weeks healing time on to lower legs.

Skin Tightening & Knee Lipo

As with any liposuction procedure you will get some skin tightening and you will in the knee area as well. The body’s injury response due to the removal of fat will kick in and collagen and elastin will be produced to repair the injury. Holding the tissues under compression will tell the body this is the shape we want you to come back to. How much tightening varies from patient to patient and factors such as age and stretch marks can play a role in how well skin retracts back. If skin laxity is an issue there are other procedures that we can incorporate with liposuction such as our new Thermitight or PDO Threads to promote more skin tightening.

The best way to find out if your knees are good candidates for this procedure is to book a complimentary consultation at Silk Touch Med Spa.

Transformation Tuesday: Smartlipo Knees

Transformation Tuesday:  Smartlipo Knees

Patient Background:

This woman came to us with extra fat around her knees that had bothered her for as long as she could remember – spending summers constantly hiding her knees. And unfortunately, no matter how many lunges one does, fat and saggy skin around the knees can be persistent.

Treatment:

Dr. Kerr used Smartlipo to sculpt the knees,. After removing the fat using Smartlipo (Smart Lipo) laser liposuction, her knees look like those of a younger woman. Smartlipo uses a laser to melt the fat and the fat is suctioned out.  This procedure took about an hour to perform. Dr. Kerr used awake anesthesia and the patient was able to get up from the procedure and walk out of the office with no problem. Recovery time was minimal and she was thrilled with the results.

Ask Dr. Kerr – “Help! My knees jiggle more than my belly!"

Posted by Brendan Floyd on Oct 14, 2013 10:30:00 AM

Dr. Kerr's "Healthy Advice" can be seen in the Boise Idaho Statesman on Thursdays.

Question:

“I am a pretty small person, 5'1", 120 lbs, size 2 jeans, and I'm generally pretty happy with my body.  One of my only complaints is my fat knees!  I have fat deposits on the insides of my knees that make my legs incredibly unsightly! I've looked into how to help reduce this deposit, but everything that I've found has said, ‘If you have fat knees, you have fat everywhere.’  Since this isn't the case, how can I shrink my chubby knees?” Jessica

It sounds like diet and exercise haven’t been enough to help you eliminate the fat around your knees. Smartlipo (Smart Lipo) laser liposuction can help. The below pictured Boise woman came to me with extra fat around her knees. After removing the fat using Smartlipo (Smart Lipo) laser liposuction, her knees now match the rest of her trim body.

Silk Touch Med Spa: Do You Want Better Looking Knees?

Posted by Shannon Morgan on Mar 21, 2012 10:01:00 AM

This week we want to share an article with you from DailyBeauty.com. The author, Shellie Terry Benson, did a wonderful job of explaining how to keep your knees looking great and youthful.

Silk Touch Med Spa offers Smartlipo technologies that can change the look of your knees dramatically. Check out our previous blog post on knee liposuction to learn more.

The Key to Beautiful Knees

Posted Monday, March 12, 2012 by Shellie Terry Benson, Editor

They’re often forgotten about, your lowly knees, until you slip on the first skirt of the spring or a pair of shorts in the summer. Dry skin may make them look ashy, while age or weight loss may make them look saggy. And though they may seem difficult to fix, your knees can look pretty again. (Remember when Demi Moore shocked the world with her new knees?) Here are a few ways to get your knees ready for the warmer weather:

Exfoliate: The skin on your knees is thicker than other areas to offer extra protection to your joints (the same is true of your elbows), so dryness can accumulate there. Choose an exfoliator that’s appropriate for your skin type (go for a more gentle formula if you have sensitive skin). Massage it into your skin using a circular motion and rinse. Exfoliate to remove the dry, dead skin cells twice a week, but no more than that, or you may be sloughing healthy skin away.

Moisturize: Every day, use a deeply hydrating moisturizer on your knees to lock in moisture. You may even want to use a body oil first (Avene Body Oil ($20) makes a wonderful one for very dry, sensitive skin). For super dry skin, moisturize twice a day.

Banish fat: Liposuction can help sculpt better-looking knees by removing unnecessary fat. The incision can be strategically placed at the knee or at the groin if you also want your thighs treated. But keep in mind, surgeries that are further away from the heart take longer to heal.

Try some light: Non-invasive cellulite and skin-tightening treatments such as radio-frequency energy or infra-red light, paired with massaging devices may improve slightly sagging skin around the knees.

Smooth the skin: Speculation was that Demi Moore had a knee lift to remove the sagging skin around her knees. The treatment is tricky because to surgically remove the skin, a scar will eventually develop. Ask your plastic surgeon for before-and-after photos of other cases so you’re well aware of what results may be.

See the difference for yourself - here are some before and after photos of Silk Touch clients who have received this treatment:
