PDO Threads - New Non Surgical Lifts

Posted by Silk Touch Medical Aesthetics on Mar 13, 2017 2:56:00 PM

This is one of the lastest treatments available Silk Touch Med Spa and we could not be more excited about this amazing new technology and the "wow" results we are seeing! What has us and our clients so excited? PDO Threads.

The PDO Threads are hypodermic needles that are pre-loaded with a PDO absorbable suture. These sutures are often used in open heart surgery and are one of the safest to be implanted in the body. The needle is inserted subdermally, parallel to the surface of the skin, then the needle is pulled out and the PDO thread remains. The thread will dissolve over the next 4-6 months while the body is repairing itself with new collagen around the suture. The new skin structure can hold and remain behind for 12- 15 months.

Two Types of Threads:

Smooth Threads:

Smooth threads consists of creating a mesh under the the skin (ie 2 sutures inserted vertically & 3 sutures horizontally). Sort of like a #hashtag, or a net. This mesh will serve as the foundation for our new collagen production. This technique tightens the skin naturally from within. Results appear naturally, without and drastic change.

Barbed Threads:

Barbed threads are used to provide a non-surgical lift. This technique is utilized to produce a more dramatic and immediate result. The PDO sutures have “barbs”, which provide a grip underneath the skin. Sutures are inserted the same way, except they can be pulled in 1 or 2 directions, creating an instant skin repositioning. Just like with the Smooth threads, the skin will then build new collagen which will secure the lift!

In addition to non-surgical face lifts - barbed threads can provide a lift to places such as the knees.

How Do PDO Threads Work?

What is behind a lot of aesthetic procedures such as C02 Laser ResurfacingChemical Peels and Microneedling is something called a “Selective Inflammatory Response”. Since the human body is a master of self repair, these procedures are designed to make the body create new collagen in response to a “controlled injury”. PDO Threads use this natural body response.

Dr. Kerr and PA-C Autumn Heuman are very well versed in the placement and use of PDO Threads to give clients a more youthful appearance. With little to no discomfort a treatment can be done over the lunch hour- no downtime! To see if you’re a good candidate for PDO Threads book a consultation with Silk Touch Med Spa today!

Weight Loss In Your 50's

Doesn't seem like their is a new weight lossdrug being advertisied every day? Oh I wish it were that easy!  I know I have been tempted by a few of these myself....but...the naked truth is....These are all bogus....there is a new one of these each week....and they have a different product to sell.

Best weight loss advice I can give anyone in their 50's:

1.  Get your hormones checked.  If thyroid is out of whack, that can keep weight around the middle.  Bio identical hormones can be a god send for women in their 50s.

2.   Exercise:  A combination of aerobic exercise and weight training is best.  In our 50s....weight training is even more important because we lose muscle and muscle burns fat.  Spend more time on weights. Vary your exercise program so your body doesn't get used to the same old thing.

3.  Eating:  There is no way around this.....we have to eat better and choose what we eat more carefully.  Portion control is a must.  I find that a smaller plate is key.  Eat 1/2 of what you would like to eat.  Watch sugars and fats, but don't deny ourselves of good fat.  At this age, we are often free from children and money troubles so we are free to eat out more...which is terrible for our midsection.  Take half of your order home to eat the next day.

4.  Take vitamins and minerals so your body gets the nutrition that it needs and we don't have as many cravings.

5.  Water:  Drink more of it.  Carry a bottle with you.  Drink a full glass 15-20 minutes before each meal.  When you think you are hungry....drink first.

If you still hit a plataue and can't seem to get rid of that little extra around the waist, hips, thighs or really anywhere on the body - or would like additional contouring - we invite you to come meet with the experts at Silk Touch to discuss our state-of-the-art body contouring procedures - including liposuction, non-invasive fat removal treatments and skin tightening treatments

4 Botox Myths BUSTED!

Posted by Sara Barrett on Feb 14, 2017 6:09:00 PM

Botox is still one of the most popular cosmetic treatments. However, there are still some pretty big misconceptions and myths about Botox out there.

Did you know Silk Touch Med Spa, Laser & Lipo of Boise was recently named a Top 250 Allergan Account. That means we are one of the top accounts in the Nation! This places our injectors in the top 1% in the nation.  Allergan is the maker of Botox, Juvederm, Voluma and Latisse.

We're here to spread some truth on some of these 4 common myths.

Myth 1: If you stop getting Botox, your wrinkles will get worse.

Latisse-and-Botox.jpg

Nope - they won't get worse but they will return to the state they were originally.  If you choose to stop Botox treatments completely, the regular development of wrinkles will continue. But no, Botox will not make your wrinkles worse.

Myth 2: Botox is only used to treat wrinkles

FDA-botox.png

This is probably the biggest misconception about Botox. Botox is FDA approved for many medical conditions including: pain relief for Migraines, TMJ and to stop excessive sweating.

See more suprising Botox uses here.

Myth 3: You can get Botox at any age

url-5.jpg

While there are no age limits for Botox (we even treat patients 65+), you can be too young to get Botox. While the minimum age is 18 and many patients like to start treatments before they even have wrinkles for preventative reasons, we suggest that patients wait till they are in their early 20s to start preventative treatments. Waiting a few years won't cause any irreversable damage.

Read more about preventative Botox treatments.

Myth 4: Botox is only for Women

brotox.jpg

Absolutely not! They don't call it "Bro-Tox" for nothing! Studies show that men are getting cosmetic treatments like Botox and fillers more and more each year. We see all ages of men for Botox treatments. Wrinkles can sometimes make men appear angry, in addtion to looking older. Getting Botox can soften up a persons look to just give them a more approachable appearance - which can help men personally and proffessionaly.

Microneedling with PRP Treatment

The Ultimate Facial Rejuvenation: Microneedling with PRP

Now more than ever, people are looking for ways to completely rejuvenate their skin without having to go under the knife. Popularly known as the Vampire Facelift, PRP treatments have become recognized for their ability to completely rejuvenate the face - resulting in tighter, refreshed and younger looking skin.

The combination of two cutting-edge new treatments,  is getting incredible results and is even being used by many celebrities.

What is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy involves the use of blood plasma, enriched through a special process to increase the concentration of platelets. PRP treatments are performed by collecting blood from the patient and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the blood. This “platelet-rich plasma” is drawn out and can then be used via injection or micro-needling back into the patient.

While this may seem different, PRP has amazing skin care benefits.

The platelet-rich plasma is full of growth factors which can aid in the repair process of tissue, including the skin. It helps promote cell growth, tissue repair and the production of new collagen - which can decrease healing time.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is performed with a small hand held device that makes tiny controlled micro-injuries or channels to the skin. This triggers body to produce new collagen and elastin within the dermis, as well as in new capillaries for improved blood supply. The results are improved skin texture and a reduced appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, texture/tone, stretch marks, and acne scars.

The Ultimate Duo – Microneedling + PRP

aging2-300x280Combining these two treatments can take years off of the appearance of your skin! Clients are seeing some fantastic results with the topical application of PRP. During this treatment we utilize Microneedling to “stamp” the skin creating tiny channels along the surface. Then PRP is applied topically to the skin, allowing the full penetration of PRP deep down into the dermis and epidermis layers of the skin.

Since this procedure does not break down the epidermis the downtime is minimal. Your skin may appear slightly red (similar to a light sunburn) with some mild discomfort for a day or two after the procedure. This treatment can also be done on almost any part of the body including the face, neck & hands.

Can You Get Liposuction on Your Knees?

Posted by Stephanie Cook (Patient Care Coordinator) on Jan 9, 2017 11:00:00 AM

If you’ve ever looked down and wished you had thinner knees - we can help! Some people due to genetics have the tendency to hold onto fat around the knee area. Liposuction of the knees can reduce extra fat and sculpt the knees to proportinally match your natural leg shape. Dr. Kerr of Silk Touch is one of only a few Doctors in the world that will work on knees. So if you’re looking for thinner knees- you’ve definitely found the right place with Dr. Kerr and Silk Touch Med Spa.

Who is a candiate?

Not everyone who thinks their knees are “fatty” is necessarily candidate for liposuction on the knees. As these are a difficult area, we request clients to come in for a consultation or to send photos first for evaluation. See the before and after photo below as an example for a Knee lipo candidate:

What is the procedure like?

After your intial consultation, you will come in for a pre-op with Dr. Kerr several days before your procedure. We will go over pre/post op insturctions as well as medications and any new questions you might have. The actual procedure is usually done in about three hours. After the procedure, compression socks will have to worn for two weeks. Lower legs can often take longer to heal since they are gravity dependant and the furthest from the heart. Dr. Kerr tells his liposuction patients that they will feel 80% at the end of week one and 90% at the end of week two, add two weeks healing time on to lower legs.

Skin Tightening & Knee Lipo

As with any liposuction procedure you will get some skin tightening and you will in the knee area as well. The body’s injury response due to the removal of fat will kick in and collagen and elastin will be produced to repair the injury. Holding the tissues under compression will tell the body this is the shape we want you to come back to. How much tightening varies from patient to patient and factors such as age and stretch marks can play a role in how well skin retracts back. If skin laxity is an issue there are other procedures that we can incorporate with liposuction such as our new Thermitight or PDO Threads to promote more skin tightening.

The best way to find out if your knees are good candidates for this procedure is to book a complimentary consultation at Silk Touch Med Spa.

How To Choose Between Liposuction and Non Invasive Fat Reduction

Posted by Silk Touch Medical Aesthetics on Dec 14, 2016 5:31:00 PM

Every week it seems there is something new in the world of aesthetic medicine, and in all honesty it can be hard for people to keep up! There are so many options these days - especially for body procedures! So when it comes to waging the war on fat - what is really the best option? How and who is going to benefit the most from a certain procedure/treatment really depends on the patient and the outcome they are hoping to achieve.

If Your Looking For Body Contouring or Fat Loss

If someone really wants to change the shape and contour of their body liposuction still reigns supreme. In fact in 2015 it was the most requested cosmetic procedure according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. This minimally invasive procedure breaks down and removes fat immediately from the body and results are often pretty dramatic. It can make someone look like they lost 10-15 pounds. Downside is that you will have to wear a compression garment for up to two weeks and healing does take time.

See More Before & After Photos

If you have small problem areas or can't those stubborn final few pounds.

So what kind of patient would benefit from the new non-invasive fat reduction procedures? The best results come from those patients who have small targeted areas of fat accumulation (think those last "5lbs" that wont budge from your tummy or loves), or those who are adamantly opposed to doing anything invasive. Non-invasive options like our Sculpsure device uses radiofrequency energy to destroy fat cells in a multiple quick sessions.  Once destroyed they are carried away through the body’s lymphatic system. You won’t get the immediate WOW results like you will with liposuction; it can take up to 12 weeks for the 25% reduction results to be seen. Upside is that can you have the procedure and go back to work that day. No compression garment is needed.

The best rule of thumb is to decide what you want, what you’re willing to undergo and be honest in what results you want to achieve! Then educate yourself on each procedure by asking the experts who perform these on a daily basis. Knowledge is the power that will allow you to make an informed decision that is right for you.

Curious which body contouring procedure is right for you? Let us help! At Silk Touch, we offer a wide array of body contouring procedures: liposuction, non-invasive, as well as skin tightening. Everybody and every body is different - what worked for a friend isn't always what will work for you!  During your initial consultation we can go over your goals and concerns and can recommend the best treatment for optimal results.

How to Get Rid of Dark Eye Circles For Good

Posted by Sara Barrett on Dec 2, 2016 9:41:00 AM

describe the imageALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN

Because the skin beneath your eyes is so thin, it's especially prone to sun-induced hyperpigmentation (and skin cancer). But sunscreen can also be especially irritating if it gets in your eyes. Use a nondrippy or stick formula that won't migrate.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT MAKEUP REMOVER

When you rub your skin to pry off your liner, you're causing inflammation and capillary damage—both of which can contribute to dark circles. Cleansing oils, like melt eye makeup with the least amount of rubbing. As a bonus, you'll lose fewer lashes, too.

COOL DOWN

Washing your face with hot water worsens puffiness and can accentuate dark circles.

GET A PROFESSIONAL LASER TREATMENT

To reduce bluish and red discoloration under the eyes, lasers can help by constricting visible blood vessels.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT EYE SHADOW

A shimmering nude cream or powder shadow can brighten up your eyes, as long as it's a touch darker than your skin tone. If it's lighter, it looks frosty and dated.

USE FILLERS AS A MORE PERMANENT SOLUTION

consult silk touch

At the first signs of hollowing, using a filler such as hyaluronic acid or fat can help to fill in the spots that appear in the tear troughs. Fillers like Artefill are extremely effective in filling deficient areas under the eyes when it is injected deep into the tissue. Artefill is different from temporary injectable wrinkle fillers. The unique microspheres in Artefill are not absorbed by the body and provide the support your skin needs for natural, long lasting results.

The patient below came to us with concerns about the hollowness of hers eyes, something that has bothered her for as long as she can remember! Dr. Kerr used Bellafill under the eyes and in the tear trough. The end result? No more looking tired! If you are wary about using a permanent filler, other injectables can be used to get the same result.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing for Acne Scars

Posted by Brian Kerr on Nov 21, 2016 10:04:00 AM

 url-6.jpg

One of the most effective treatments for patients with acne scars is the CO2 Fractional Laser.  C02 Laser resurfacing uses small columns of fractionated energy to ablate areas of damaged skin. Tiny wounds are made and the surrounding healthy skin helps with healing.

When the skin heals, it produces new collagen and the new skin is smoother, tighter and with less irregular pigmentation and scarring.

acne-scar-r-face.jpg

Although laser resurfacing can be very dramatic it is important for acne scar patients to realize that severe scarring can require multiple treatments. Many patients are satisfied with a single treatment while others benefit from a series of laser treatments. Recently, our medical assistant Kelly had a CO2 done for her acne scars. Here's what she has to say about her experience:

"I am one of those “lucky” people who suffer from acne scaring since my school days. Anyone that knows me knows how much my scars have affected me and make me feel insecure.  I was a chicken at first about getting the CO2 done but finally decided to go through with it and I wish I would of done this years ago. The first week I was very red and did not want to be seen in public, but it got better every day. By week 2 I was able to start wearing makeup. Now I am at week 3, very happy with my results, and feeling much more confident about the way that I look. I would definitely recommend this treatment to anyone" - Kelly, Boise

Fractional CO2 resurfacing can erase years and dramatically improve the appearance of scars, wrinkles and pigment, but it is not a lunchtime procedure. Downtime can be anywhere from several days to up to 2-weeks. During the healing process, the new skin is red and very dry at first, then pink then heals back to normal.
