5 Things To Look For When Choosing A Cosmetic Surgeon

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Jul 8, 2022 12:00:00 AM

Blog Graphic-2

Finding a cosmetic surgeon can be stressful. You don’t want just anyone performing surgery on you, especially a surgery that can alter your appearance. That’s why we suggest doing your research to learn everything you can about your surgeon in order to determine if they are the right fit for you. Below are the top things you should be looking for in a cosmetic surgeon:

  1. Board-Certified Surgeon: A board certification ensures that your surgeon has been properly trained and has the necessary experience to be performing procedures. Our very own Dr. Jason Nealy is a triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon who is board certified in general surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, and general cosmetic surgery. Dr. Nealy is the best of the best and his results prove it!

  2. Great Ratings and Reviews: Word of mouth and great reviews go a long way. Hearing from previous patients can give you a better understanding of what to expect. Great surgeons have consistent and recent reviews with high ratings from their patients. (Check out Dr. Nealy’s recent reviews here!)

  3. Accredited Facility: Operating out of an accredited facility ensures that the highest safety standards are met. The facility is regularly inspected to ensure these standards are maintained. They also have adequate life support equipment and qualified support staff to help in case of an emergency.

  4. Tailored Treatments: Cosmetic surgery isn’t a one size fits all procedure. It’s important to find a surgeon who is willing to take the time to create a treatment plan that is unique to you. You should be able to talk openly and honestly with your doctor about your goals. From there, your surgeon can discuss with you your options and customize a plan that is right for you.

  5. Professional and Friendly Staff: Good bedside manner says a lot about a doctor. Your surgeon should take interest in your case, ask you questions, and answer any questions you may have. Surgery is a big step and it’s important that you trust your surgery team and that they make you feel comfortable.

At Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery, Lipo and Medspa we care about our patients and want them to have a great experience with us. Dr. Nealy and his team are highly skilled in what they do and have helped patients just like you achieve their aesthetic goals. If you are ready to take the next step in your transformation, give us a call at 208-939-3110 or visit us online to schedule a consultation

Jason Nealy—D.O.

Jason Nealy, D.O., is a triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon, with a specialty in facial rejuvenation, body contouring and breast augmentation. Dr. Nealy is triple board certified in: general surgery, facial cosmetic surgery and general cosmetic surgery. This is extremely rare and it shows in his results-driven techniques and artistic transformations. His advanced surgical skills and expansive cosmetic training help him to deliver the best aesthetic results to his patients, in addition to the highest level of attention to detail and service. Dr. Nealy chose a career in cosmetic surgery to change patients' lives through a “look good, feel good'' philosophy. He loves the beauty of human anatomy, artistry involved, and ability to create with his hands. This can be seen in the incredible results of his patients.

Jaquelyn Constance—Registered Nurse

Jaquelyn Constance is a registered nurse, who prior to working at Silk Touch, worked as a labor and delivery nurse. Her weekly work schedule varies. Three days a week she spends her time getting patients ready for surgery, circulating in the OR, and spending 30 minutes in recovery monitoring vital signs and managing pain. The other two days she assists Dr. Nealy with consultations, pre-op appointments, surgical follow-ups, and injections. As a registered nurse, Jaquelyn helps start IVs and administer medications to surgery patients. Her favorite part of her job is following patients along their journey from their first consultation to their final follow-up appointment. She loves seeing them gain the confidence that they have always deserved to have.

Randi Schlenker—Surgical Technologist

As a surgical technologist, Randi assists Dr. Nealy with many different things. To help prepare for surgery, Randi gathers all the necessary supplies, equipment and instruments to help the procedure go smoothly. She sets up the back table and mayo stand with instruments that will be needed, while maintaining a proper sterile field throughout surgery to prevent patient infection. During procedures, Randi assists Dr. Nealy by passing instruments and other sterile supplies to him, all while anticipating the needs of the surgical team. She makes sure surgical instruments and equipment are prepared, washed, and maintained for every procedure. Randi loves being able to help Dr. Nealy help patients achieve their goals and boost their confidence.

5 Tips to Minimize Post-op Scarring

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Dec 2, 2021 12:00:00 AM

Minimizing Scars Blog

A big concern for many patients when getting surgery is scarring. More specifically, how noticeable the scarring will be. It’s inevitable that with incisions there will be scars. Doctors can be strategic with the placement, size, and type of incisions made to help hide potential scarring, but how your scars heal is mainly determined by how you care for them. Good post-op care is crucial to achieve thin, flat and faded scars. While we can’t promise your scars won’t be visible, we can give you our 5 tips that can help minimize the appearance of scarring after surgery.

  1. Avoid exposure to sunlight: Exposure to the sun's UV rays has the potential to cause hyperpigmentation on your scar, which can alter your scar’s appearance. To avoid this, always apply sunscreen, especially when direct sunlight to your scar can’t be avoided.
  2. Avoid smoking and alcohol: Nicotine reduces blood flow which in return delays or prolongs healing. Alcohol dehydrates the body, which can affect your overall health. Both affect the health of your body, and when your body isn’t healthy the healing process can lengthen.
  3. Massage your scar: A few weeks after your surgery begin massaging your incisions and the surrounding area to reduce inflammation, and even out any lumps or bumps under the skin that may cause poor scar healing.
  4. Apply Silicone: Silicone gel or sheets applied to scars has been found to increase hydration, normalize collagen production, and reduce hypertrophic scarring (thick pink scars).
  5. Avoid Tension: Moving, lifting, or stretching in ways that put added tension and stress on your healing scars can widen and thicken the appearance of the scar, and in some instances can prolong healing.

Along with these tips, following the wound care instructions provided by your doctor will help ensure proper healing. Once the incisions have healed it can take months to years for the scars to fade. They won't be completely gone, but they can be less noticeable.

For some patients, genetics can play a part in how your scars heal. Be sure to address any concerns you may have with your doctor. If you are interested in one of our cosmetic surgery procedures, take the first step and schedule a consultation by calling us at 208-939-3110 or visiting us online.

Do Breast Implants Need To Be Replaced?

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Oct 21, 2021 12:00:00 AM

Breast augmentation can be a great way for women who are small-chested, or who have previously breastfed, to improve the shape, fullness, size and appearance of their breasts. With different implant sizes and materials, there is bound to be an option for everyone. The big question for many patients when deciding to get implants is “How long do they last?” If this is something you’ve wondered then you are in the right place.

Implant Blog Post

In the past, implants had to be replaced every ten years due to things like typical wear, rupture, or leaking. With advancements in the quality of implants, they now last forever! Breast augmentation is now a one and done treatment, as long as no issues arise with your implants indicating that reoperation is necessary.

Dr. Nealy recommends routine annual mammograms and frequent self-checks to ensure the implants are still intact. In addition, he recommends patients who have received a breast augmentation get an MRI every three years to evaluate the implant for signs of rupture. Because of the improved quality of current implants, it is nearly impossible to tell if they have ruptured in a physical exam alone.

If you have received breast implants in the past, and are unsure if your implants will need to be replaced, it’s important to check with your provider. Older implants often are replaced every ten years. At Silk Touch, we offer implant removal and replacement for patients who previously received implants.

For those of you who are interested in breast augmentation surgery or are wanting more information on the procedure, be sure to give us a call at 208-939-3110 to schedule a consultation!

How to Prepare For Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Aug 19, 2021 12:00:00 AM

Are you wanting to get a breast augmentation? The first step is scheduling your consultation. Your consultation is important to be able to help you and the doctor get on the same page with your goals as well as discuss the options you have with the surgery. Below are some things you can do prior to your consultation to help you come more prepared.

Breast aug consult blog

Learn about the different implant options

Everyone has different goals for their breast size and appearance which makes it important to offer different options for breast implants. Implants differ in size, shape, texture and material. Though we do not offer textured implants, we do use smooth implants that are either silicone or saline.

Know your goal breast size

Before coming in for your consultation you should have a general idea of what breast size you are wanting. Finding pictures of what you want as reference may be beneficial to you. Standard breast sizing in retail goes by cup size (a, b, c, d, etc.) however, implant size is measured in cubic centimeters, or cc’s. It is important that you wear/bring a sports bra and light colored shirt to your consultation. In order to determine the right breast size for you, you will need to try on breast sizers. A regular bra is not ideal to try on the sizers and a light shirt makes them easier to see when testing them out.

Make a list of questions you may have for the doctor

Having a list of questions prepared ahead of time can help you make sure you get all of the information you need to make a decision. For ideas on what to ask, check out our blog “10 Questions to ask during your cosmetic surgery consultation.”

Do your research on the procedure

During your consultation an explanation of the procedure will be given, but it is important to have a general knowledge before your consultation. Different things the doctor will consider include types of implants, if a breast lift is needed with the augmentation, if a breast reduction is needed, nipple placement, incision site and more. An information packet is given to the patient to take home after the consultation that reiterates what was previously discussed, as well as gives some details on pre- and post-op care.

Other things to note

When you come in for your consultation with Dr. Nealy you can expect him to perform a full breast assessment for measurements and to ensure the health of the tissue inside the breast. This is done with a female assistant present in the room to ensure safety of both the patient and the doctor.

After your assessment you can be given quotes for the different options discussed in the consultation. If a patient is interested in talking about scheduling or payment options at the time of the consultation, that can be done. However, patients are always allowed their time to think things over and decide at a later date. Quotes are generally good for one year as long as the health history of the patient has not changed.

When getting ready for your cosmetic surgery consultation it’s important to do your research and come prepared with questions. Cosmetic Surgery Consultation Questions Blog

Below are 10 questions we think may be helpful to you as you gear up for your consultation.

  1. Do you think this procedure will be beneficial for me and that I am a good candidate?
  2. Should I combine this procedure with another one to help me get the results I am wanting?
  3. What should I do ahead of time to prepare for my procedure?
  4. When will I begin to see results?
  5. Are there any risks or complications I should be aware of before the procedure?
  6. What kind of scarring can I expect from the incisions?
  7. How long do the results last, and will additional procedures be required down the road to maintain the results?
  8. What kind of anesthesia is given and how is it administered?
  9. How would you respond if an emergency were to happen during the procedure?
  10. What are your credentials? Are you a board certified surgeon?

Cosmetic Surgery Vs. Plastic Surgery: What's The Difference

Posted by Silk Touch Medical Aesthetics on Feb 11, 2021 1:12:00 PM

If you missed our previous announcement, we at Silk Touch are excited to welcome Dr. Jason Nealy to our team! Dr. Nealy is a triple board certified cosmetic surgeon who is joining us from the Seattle area. Dr. Nealy is leading our new cosmetic surgery expansion, and will be offering procedures like breast implants, tummy tucks and mommy makeovers. So what is cosmetic surgery exactly? The term cosmetic surgery is often confused for plastic surgery, but in fact they are very different things.

Cosmetic surgery is focused on enhancing the beauty of the body through surgical procedures. This type of surgery is based on aesthetic appeal. Cosmetic surgery services include:

  • Breast Enhancement
  • Facial Contouring
  • Cosmetic Rhinoplasty
  • Fat Transfer
  • Facial Rejuvenation
  • Body Contouring
  • Skin Rejuvenation

Plastic surgery, on the other hand, is focused on the surgical reconstruction of defects to the face and body. These defects can be due to things such as body disorders, disease, trama, and burns. Examples of plastic surgery include:

  • Breast reconstruction
  • Burn Repair Surgery
  • Congenital Defect Repair
  • Lower Extremity Reconstruction
  • Hand Surgery
  • Scar Revision Surgery

Board certified plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgeons have similar paths for schooling, but cosmetic surgeons gain far more additional training, knowledge and experience before becoming board certified due to them being required to complete a post-fellowship training program after their initial residency.

When choosing a surgeon, it is important to research and keep in mind a doctor’s training and education. As a triple board certified cosmetic surgeon there is no doubt that Dr. Nealy knows his stuff! Don’t miss out on getting on our schedule for one of the many new cosmetic surgical procedures we are offering with Dr. Nealy. Book a consultation today!
