Affirm Laser: Say GOODBYE to Stretch Marks!

Posted by Shannon Morgan on Sep 7, 2012 12:27:00 PM

Recently over coffee one of my girlfriends shared this story with me, “One day I was getting ready to get in the shower, when I glanced in the mirror and to my horror I saw something that wasn’t there yesterday.  Stretch marks!  I made it 8 months into my first pregnancy without a single one.  Of course I have been searching online for what to do to prevent them from happening, but that still leaves me with the haunting question what to do with the ones that I already have.”.  The answer to her problem? Affirm Laser

Affirm Laser is the only FDA approved laser to treat stretch marks.  The Affirm Laser combines a 1320NM and 1440nm laser wavelengths to boost collagen deep within the skin which helps flatten stretch marks.  The laser fires both lasers almost simultaneously so that the patient only feels a “pinch” once.  It also stimulates new collagen production in the treated area, and will help reduce sagging over time.

Here is a before and after photo from one of our past patients. The results are unbelievable! This patient received Affirm Laser on their stomach, only on the left side.  You can see the results are!

With the Affirm Laser multiple procedures are suggested to optimize the results.  Four to six treatments being about three to six weeks apart is average, and each procedure taking about 30 to 45 minutes. This procedure requires little to no down time, because the Affirm Laser does not remove any layers of skin, so most patients experience sunburn like redness that can easily be covered up with make-up, and dissolve within 24 hours.

Since Affirm Laser is gentle on the skin and does not need dies or markers to mark the treatment area it can be used on virtually any part of the body.  From the stomach, to the breast, the thigh area - any place where stretch marks might creep in!

After being treated with the Affirm Laser my friend noticed a dramatic change, and couldn’t be happier.  If your problem is not stretch marks, the Affirm Laser also treats:

  • surgical scars

  • traumatic scars

  • skin tone and clarity

  • pigmentation

  • pore size

  • deep lines and folds

  • acne pock marks

  • texture

  • winkle reduction

Scar Treatment with Smartlipo, Vaser and Artefill and more!

Scars are an inevitable occurrence and can have a huge impact on how you feel about yourself.

What can you do to reduce the appearance of your scars?

Scar revision is a common cosmetic procedure designed to reduce the visibility of scar tissue by altering its appearance. Frequently used on stretch marks, surgical scars, and acne scars, and the like. Although no scar can be completely removed, scar treatments are a great way to minimize a scar’s appearance while enhancing natural skin tone and texture.

The way a scar develops depends on your body’s natural healing process, the cause of the injury, and its location on the body. Other variables, such as the size and depth of the wound, the thickness of your skin, and the direction of the wound can also affect the way an injury heals and a scar develops. Your type of scaring will determine the  most effective treatment plan.

Silk Touch Medspa, Laser & Lipo Center of Boise offers a range of procedures that can minimize the appearance of most scars. These procedures include the Deep Affirm® Skin Tightening and Deep Contouring laser, which has long been used for treatment of scars in patients with moderate to severe acne. In addition, scars can benefit from a variety of other treatments including Fractional DOT CO2 Therapy, Microdermabrasion, Smartlipo and  Vaser assited liposuction and long lasting fillers, such as Artefill.

The photo below is a close up of the scar revision by Dr. Kerr. He used a combination of Smartlipo and Vaser to help contour the body and improve the appearance of her scar.

Another favorite procedure of our clients and staff is the use of Artefill to reduce the appearance of deep acne scars. For those of you who are suffering from deep acne scars, you understand the frustration of covering them up with concealer everyday, which doesn’t always do the job we would like it to do.

Unlike temporary filers that last only a few months, Artefill combines collagen with microspheres designed to support the collagen. While your body eventually absorbs the collagen, the microspheres continue to support the skin. The effects of Artefill have been are long lasting since the microspheres do not break down in the body.

Every scar is different. If you’re interested in improving the appearance of a scar, from stretch marks to acne scars, we are here to help. To find out what treatment options are best for you, give our staff a call at 208-939-3110 or visit this link to: schedule a free consultation.

How do I get rid of my stretch marks - Boise?

Posted by Susan Kerr on Oct 11, 2011 11:01:00 AM

Stretch marks are annoying and can be difficult to treat. There are many factors to consider when trying to treat stretch marks. How much loose skin is there?  Is your body a collagen and elastin producing machine?  If you have too much skin, a doctor has a pretty easy call--you probably need surgery.  However, a doctor cannot always predict how much your skin will tighten because every person produces collagen and elastin at different rates.

The Affirm laser is FDA approved to both tighten skin  and improve stretch marks. In the best case scenarios, we see tighter skin with improved tone, smoother skin texture, and flatter and softer stretch marks with increased tightness. Ultimately, the body has to do its job.  It has to be willing to produce collagen after being treated.  It can sometimes be difficult to predict who will get great results.  We have seen 60 year olds with results to make any client jealous and younger clients that haven't had the results we might expect.

How do lasers for stretch marks work?

Fractional lasers use a technology that creates injury to the skin by sending laser beams down into the skin (imagine aerating your lawn). The laser damages these narrow channels of tissue, leaving healthy skin surrounding these damaged narrow channels. This healthy skin helps the damaged tissue heal quicker. The thermal damage speeds up collagen and elastin production in the skin.

Does Treatment Hurt?

There is some discomfort with the treatment if an anesthetic is not used.  Simply applying an anesthetic cream on the skin about 45 min before treatment minimizes discomfort and patients are able to tolerate the treatment very well.

How long does the treatment take?

The actual treatment can take just a few minutes to treat individual stretch marks or 30-45 minutes to treat legs or abdomen that are covered with stretch marks.

How long does it take to recover?

Generally, most clients can walk out the door, put on makeup and be ready to go out that evening.  But it is always a good idea to give yourself one day to recover, as there can be some redness and swelling for several days.

How many treatments do I need?

Generally you need a series of treatments.  We usually recommend a minimum of four.  The results will not be immediate.  It takes time for collagen to be regenerated.  Patience is necessary with this treatment.

What is the cost of a stretch mark treatment?

Prices vary depending on the area treated and the number of treatments given.  One treatment can run as low as $50 for a small area to several hundred dollars for a package of treatments.

What can I do to prevent stretch marks?

Weight gain is one of the greatest factors that affect stretch mark formation.  Keeping weight stable during pregnancy and during one's life is important.  Topical creams like alpha-hydroxy acids or Retin-A medicines may help, but often heredity is a factor.  If your mom got stretch marks, you are more likely to get them as well.  So don't beat yourself up if you spread on the cream faithfully and still get stretch marks.

Always schedule a consultation with an experienced physician to discuss your specific case and learn more about available treatment options.
