I see a lot of clients in my office who are desperate to lose weight or inches quickly. Often the question is, "Can you fix me now? I am desperate!"
They come in desperation for various reasons: some want to look good for a High School reunion, a wedding or a planned cruise or big event. Some clients have more serious reasons: they are at risk of losing their job.
I do a couple cases of liposuction a week (Smart Lipo, Vaser) and it really can be amazing to see the transformation, but liposuction isn't for everyone and I wanted to talk about another very effective method that we have used in our office to help clients achieve their weight loss goals.
For the past couple years I have been recommending the Take Shape For Life program. I am confident that patients who adhere to the program will lose weight quickly and safely. At Silk Touch Med Spa we use the program as follows:
1. Pre-liposuction to get a patient to the desired weight (generally a BMI of 30 or less)
2. Post- liposuction to keep the weight off.
3. As an alternative to liposuction.
The successes of our clients has been simply amazing. More importantly, patients have been able to make a "lifestyle change" to keep their weight off. They learn to eat more frequently and to eat smaller portions.
The program consists of 5 meals a day with one additional "lean & green" meal that can be eaten at any time during the day. The replacement meals are high in protein which helps to keep the client from getting hungry. Generally, hunger is felt in the first 1-3 days....but most of our clients find that after that three day window....they've adjusted to the smaller meals and feel quite satisfied!
Most of our clients drop 2-5 lbs. a week very easily.
After the client loses their desired weight they go on a maintenance program where they begin adding regular food. Many of them continue to use the high- protein Medifast bars or meals long after their initial weight loss because they are easy to prepare or carry with them and very satisfying. It's nice to be able to substitute a bar or meal when the scale starts to creep up a bit.

This past year many celebrities like Kate Hudson and Victoria Beckham gave birth to beautiful healthy babies. And it wasn't very long before we saw those new mommies out and about sporting a newly toned, skinny and healthy body. Almost as if they were never pregnat!
They make it look so easy. But, for those of us who aren't A-list celebrities sometimes we need a little plastic surgery to help get that body back. A lot of women have even chosen to have procedures done before getting pregnat.
Does having plastic surgery pre-baby bump help our bodies recover faster? Most doctors believe this doesn't have an effect on how quickly the body will recover.
Liposuction
Thos who have had lipostuction pre-baby may have a better chance of not gaining weight in the area where liposuction was performed. But, you can still gain weight in other parts of the body. Full lips = Younger Look?

Research has now suggested that fuller lips may have as much to do with a woman's perceived age as the appearance of wrinkles. “The volume in your lips starts to decline as early as in the mid-30s,” says a New Beauty Magazine article. The question was asked, "How can you create a natural-looking, full lip without overdoing it?"
Many women are worried about getting "duck lips" or "platypus lips". We’ve all seen it. The woman with the lips that walk through the door before she does! No one wants this look! But, if the injector is experienced, natural lips can be created by adding filler in increments.
The biggest problem at times, is knowing what your limits are. Some people with very small lips think they are going to be able to inflate their lips to the size of Angelina Jolie....but let's be realistic. If you have small lips, you can only enhance them to a degree.
It’s not just about filling the lips. One needs to consider the entire face and understand the balance of the lips as it pertains to the rest of the face. Not all injectors have an artistic eye or understand the anatomy of the face. Finding an experienced, artistically talented injector is key. You’ll need to choose wisely. Lips may be injected by fillers like Juvéderm or Restylane or with one’s own fat (fat transfer) after a laser liposuction procedure (Smartlipo or Vaser). Radiesse, though considered a temporary filler, is not recommended for lips. “I steer my patients away from permanent fillers,” explains Boise, Idaho, Cosmetic Physician Brian Kerr, MD, “the patient may not like the outcome…and then they are stuck.” Also, as we age our faces change as do our lips and what might be a good lip augmentation for us in our 30s may not looks so great in our 50s.
Injecting the lips with temporary fillers like Restylane or Juvéderm can create beautiful full plump lips. When using Hylauronic fillers, one can reverse the process by dissolving the filler if the outcome isn't perfect.
Some clients need structure for their lips. This can often be achieved by injecting in the vermillion border around the mouth. This gives the lips a boundary. Smudged lipstick becomes a thing of the past when lips are defined. Others need fullness which can be obtained by injecting directly into the lip itself.
Down-turned corners of mouth are another concern. Age and gravity can pull the corners down, giving the person a sad or angry appearance. By filling the corners of the mouth with Juvéderm or Restylane, the corners can be lifted like springs under a mattress. Support is needed to lift the corners of the mouth to a more pleasant appearance.
For those who complain about wrinkles around the mouth, sometimes a filler is not enough. Injecting BOTOX (which reduces wrinkles by relaxing the muscles) around the mouth can smooth out the wrinkles and also add some fullness to the lip, giving it a much more youthful look. If BOTOX is injected into the cupid’s bow, the lips will become slightly inverted or show more of the lip underneath. Sometimes injecting BOTOX alone is enough to give the lips the fullness they need without any filler at all.
