Cryolipolysis leads surge in body sculpting

Cryolipolysis leads surge in body sculpting

The increasing popularity of treatments such as cryolipolysis and deoxycholic acid (Kybella) led to a tripling in the number of body sculpting procedures during 2012-2017, according to a survey from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

A total of 434,000 body sculpting procedures were performed by ASDS members in 2017, compared with 146,000 in 2012, the ASDS reported based on data from 667 survey respondents, which were generalized to the society’s membership of over 6,400 physicians.

Cryolipolysis represented the largest share of body sculpting treatments in 2017, with over 208,000 procedures performed – an increase of 77% over 2016. Radio-frequency procedures were next with almost 90,000 performed, followed by deoxycholic acid with 46,000 procedures, microfocused ultrasound with 32,000, and laser lipolysis with 25,000, the ASDS said.

“An increase in media coverage and in celebrities acknowledging their procedures are growing awareness among the general public and improving the comfort level of diverse audiences to explore treatments,” ASDS president Lisa Donofrio, MD, said in a written statement. The survey was conducted from Jan. 4 to Feb. 14, 2018.

CoolSculpting for Your Arms Is Now a Thing, Too

BY SARAH KINONENSARAHKINONEN

No matter how many bicep curls I manage to squeeze into my beloved Barry'sBootcamp class, the seemingly endless reps never to seem to be nearly enough to sculpt the chiseled arms of my dreams. Blame it on my incessant need for lean, long limbs—along with my admitted penchant for dessert—but regardless, regular old reps just aren't cutting it right now.

Which is why news about CoolSculpting, an FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure that freezes off fat cells—up to 25 percent—causing them to die, piqued my interest. Because originally, it was developed and approved only for specific areas of the body such as the abdomen and flanks. Now, CoolSculpting for your arms is an option, too.

The CoolSculpting procedure was created by Zeltiq, a medical technology company, in 2010—and has only gained in popularity in the seven years since its inception. Now you can find the treatment offered not only at doctor's offices, but at medical spas as well—and sometimes, with a Groupon-esque code for it all. But again, it was initially only approved for use on certain body parts—arms not included. Until this week, that is, when the FDA approved its use for removal of upper arm fat.

Stop Aging In Its Tracks With Sculptra

Posted by Silk Touch Medical Aesthetics on Mar 26, 2018 8:46:00 PM

sculptra-logo

We live in a world where want and usually expect instant results. Whether its lip filler or Botox to reduce frown lines for an upcoming event, we all have our preferred go-tos that we rely on to provide results with very little delay. And that's great!

But every now and again, for some people, gradual results are a better fit than the quick fix.

When it comes to choosing a gradual, long lasting filler that will make people want to know your secret.. we recommend Sculptra.

What is Sculptra Aesthetic?

Sculptra treatment is an injectable that works deep within the dermis to help replace lost collagen and gradually restore the look of fullness to areas of the face affected by facial wrinkles and folds. A full treatment (an average of 2-3 sessions over a few months) provides a refined, youthful, and natural-looking appearance that can last up to two years! Sculptra can truly help stop aging in its tracks.

FDA approved Sculptra is made from Poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material that has been used for decades in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants. Sculptra stimulates your own collagen, and works to increase the thickness of the skin resulting in a more youthful appearance.

Sculptra Benefits

1. Anti Aging

Sculptra goes directly to the source of facial aging, working deep beneath the surface, reinforcing your skin structure, and restoring the fullness and volume of your face. The best part is, gradually, over time, people will start to notice that you look fresher, younger, and more refreshed, but they won’t be able to put their finger on what it is. Sculptra is one of our best anti aging secrets.

3. It looks natural

Sculptra works gradually to stimulate your own body’s collagen production, resulting in a natural, more beautiful and youthful-looking you!

4. It's long lasting

Though other fillers may provide immediate results, they need to be injected every 3 to 6 months. Sculptra works gradually and last up to 2 years. You may see some improvements within the first few weeks of treatment, but optimal, long-lasting effects develop after an average of 3 sessions spaced a month or so apart.

We suggest a series of of at least 2-3 sessions for optimal results. The first treatment builds the base, while the second treatment gives you those wow results.

Firm Your Body with Venus Freeze - Boise

Posted by Sara Barrett on Feb 22, 2018 12:08:00 PM

venus freeze boiseRadiofrequency and ultrasound have long been used in the world of aesthetics to treat skin issues from laxity to cellulite, however, with each new year it seems there is a new machine promising better results and less discomfort.

The machine that Dr. Kerr and our aestheticians are specifically excited about is the Venus Freeze Treatment. It's probably one of the more popular non-invasive firming and lifting treatments that we have seen in this office in a long time.

So how does it work? It's a hand-held device that uses radio-wave energy to heat the skin, which causes the tissue being treated to contract and firm, while magnets stimulate new collagen and elastin for long term benefits.

venus freeze before and after

The best part is, this particular machine works on all body parts from the face, to the belly and thighs, to lift and firm saggy skin. It only takes about half an hour for each area. Benefits can't be seen immediately after the first treatment dues to temporary swelling of the skin, but when done in two to four week intervals, full results can be seen.

The treatment, which feels more like a hot stone massage than a cosmetic procedure, requires no healing or recovery time and after the first treatment, the skin looks pink and radiant.

While this treatment can be done to tighten and firm the skin of anyone from the age of 18 to 80, it's full effectiveness is best seen on patients in their early 30s to mid-40s since the skin at that age is better prone to tightening. One benefit to doing these [radiofrequency] treatments at an earlier age is that you’ll see more of a reward sooner.

Are you ready to try Venus Freeze and see the results for yourself?

Transformation Tuesday: Earlobe Repair by Dr. Brian Kerr

The Problem:

This patient came to us with a problem that many of you may relate to – a ripped earlobe caused by her earrings.  Heavy earrings can wreck havoc with your earlobes over time resulting in stretched, and sometimes large holes. People who have worn gauges in the past have resulted stretching problems as well. Not only can this be unattractive to look at, it can also cause earrings to hang improperly. In some cases you may not be able to wear earrings at all.

Here’s how we solved the problem.

Treatment Approach:

There are two ways to treat stretched out or ripped earlobes. Because this patient has such severe ripping and stretching, a surgical approach was most appropriate. Dr. Kerr started by numbing the area and excising the extra tissue that had started to regrow inside the hole. Then he quickly stitched it back together. The entire treatment was done in-office in less than 30 minutes.

The second treatment option (for those with less stretching) includes the use of fillers.  Fillers are typically made up of hyaluronic acid, which fills in the injected area adding strength and support to the pierced lobe. Results can last up to 12 months, which at that time treatment would need to be repeated. Are you suffering from a similar problem? We invite you to come in for a free consultation with Dr.Kerr. Best Treatments for Acne Scarring

Posted by Sara Barrett on Jan 22, 2018 10:29:00 AM

As if the emotional toll that acne exerts on its sufferers isn’t enough, scars left in its wake can serve as a daily reminder of days one would soon rather forget. Some acne can leave behind pitted indents in the skin that last a lifetime.

While this remains one of the more stubborn conditions to treat, aesthetic technology has made the battle with acne scars one we can win.

CO2 Fractional Laser and Acne Scar Treatment

Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing can erase years from your face and dramatically improve the appearance of acne scarring, wrinkles and pigment, but it is not a lunchtime procedure.

acne scar treatment boise

Fractional CO2 uses small columns of fractionated energy to ablate areas of damage. “Tiny wounds are made and the surrounding healthy skin helps with healing, making new collagen and elastin. It offers improvement in scarring, discoloration and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production.

The downtime with CO2 laser resurfacing can be lengthy, often 1 – 2 weeks. You’ll need to follow specific skin-care instructions and beware that your skin will go through some major changes during the healing process. However, this procedure is great for those who want big results in just one procedure.

This month we are running a special on CO2 – Buy a Face treatment, Get a Neck treatment for 75% Off. Claim this offer here.

Microneedling and Acne Scar Treatment

A less-aggressive treatment for acne scarring, with a lot less downtime is Microneedling. While you will need more treatments to see results, this non-invasive procedure is quickly becoming a client favorite here at Silk Touch.

acne scar treatment boise

This treatment uses multiple microscopic needles to penetrate the surface layers of skin – creating very small wound patterns to break old collagen chains and trigger the healing process to smooth the appearance of scars, wrinkles and stretch marks.

Most patients are very comfortable during the treatment. We use a topical numbing cream that remains on the skin for 30-40 minutes prior to the treatment. The feeling is similar to a rough exfoliation.

With Microneedling, patients will notice and immediate glow to their skin, but visible changes develop over the course of several weeks. Multiple treatments are needed for optimal results.

Is it Harder for Older Moms To Get Their Pre-Baby Body Back?

Posted by Sara Barrett on Jan 15, 2018 3:38:00 PM

Why Older Moms Have A Harder Time Getting Their Pre-Baby Body Back and How To Combat This.

It’s no secret that as we age, it becomes more difficult to maintain our dream body. Add a pregnancy on top of aging, and it can feel like it’s nearly impossible to get your pre-baby body back. This got me wondering, why is it harder for older woman to regain their body post-pregnancy?

As discussed in a recent article on NewBeauty.com, the main thing for older patients is that the elasticity of the tissues is not as good. Because of this, the skin on the breasts and abdomen that has stretched may not snap back asynchronous as it would in a younger patient. This makes sense considering the loss of skin elasticity is what causes wrinkles and sagging skin. But elasticity isn’t the only culprit. Another effect of later pregnancies is that our metabolisms are a bit slower and muscle mass a bit less so dropping the baby weight is much tougher to accomplish.

Most people agree that “having good genes” is the best way to bounce back. But don’t lose hope, there are several ways you can give your post-baby body a fighting chance.

Apart from genetics, the next best thing is to be in the best shape you can be before your pregnancy. The more energetic, fit and vital a woman is before pregnancy, the faster she will recover and regain all that she can of her pre-pregnancy body.  After you have the okay from your doctor to start working out again after giving birth, the key is to be consistent with your workouts. Workouts that will help your body bounce back quicker include core strength, cardiovascular training and overall full body strength training.

As for your skin, try to limit the amount of time you spend in the sun because it breaks down elasticity. Additionally, practicing good skin care on your body and face can boost your elasticity.

However, even with proper exercise and healthy eating habits, it’s still pretty tough to get your body back to where you want it to be. And usually the last thing you want to after a pregnancy is to go through anything invasive and surgical. That’s where non-surgical post-pregnancy procedures like CoolsculptingVenus Freeze Skin TighteningAffirm for stretch-mark reduction, and Acne/Skin Treatments, come in handy.

Each of these treatments are non-invasive, and get you back to your pre-baby body in no time, with ZERO downtime! Want to learn more about these procedures? Ask us a question or Schedule A Free Consultation.

The 5 Venus Freeze Questions You’ve Been Dying To Know

Posted by Sara Barrett on Dec 29, 2017 10:30:00 PM

venus freeze01

Is it permanent?

Venus Freeze is not maintenance free, but the effects are long lasting. After your Venus Freeze treatment series you will require maintenance treatments to ensure that you keep the aging process at bay. While the minimum treatments needed to maintain your result are one treatment once every season (4 treatments a year), we find that many patients like to come back as often as once a month because they love the treatments and the results. Discuss with your treatment provider what the best treatment plan is for your skin.

Is it cold?

Contrary to the name, Venus Freeze is not cold at all. In fact, it can feel like a hot stone massage!

Is there any pain involved?

None! In fact, most patients nap or just simply relax during the treatment.  The sensation is absolutely pleasant and warm.  You can watch a few patient testimonials here.

How soon will I see results?

Many patients report improvement after one treatment, but typically most patients see more of a result in as little as three treatments.

Try Venus Freeze for only $99 for your first treatment!

Does it really work?

Absolutely yes.  We only use before and after photos of real patients with typical results. Many of our staff members have  gone through or are currently doing Venus Freeze treamtents themselves. Feel free to call us with any questions or concerns.

Am I a Good Candidate for NeoGraft Hair Transplant?

Posted by Brian Kerr on Dec 20, 2017 12:47:00 PM

Am I a Good Candidate for Neograft Hair Transplant?

If you are looking for a solution to hair loss, a receding hair line, hair thinning or male or female patterned baldness - then NeoGraft is your answer.

NeoGraft is the latest technology in hair transplantation. We are the first to bring this exciting new procedure to Idaho, allowing more men and women to take advantage of the benefits of no-scalpel/no-stitch FUE hair transplants

NeoGraft’s advanced technology allows patients to achieve natural looking results with no linear scar, minimal downtime and a shorter recovery period to achieve a discrete solution to hair loss.

NeoGraft is a game changer when it comes to hair restoration technology. But, not everyone is a candidate.

Who is a good candidate for NeoGraft?

Candidates for NeoGraft hair transplant are those individuals in good health with moderate hair loss and sufficient donor hair on the back of the scalp to transplant into the balding areas. Those with more donor hair, greater hair thickness and fullness can typically expect fuller results. It is also important that you have realistic cosmetic goals. Hair transplantation can achieve very good, natural results but cannot restore your hair to the density you had as a teenager. During your consultation, our NeoGraft coordinator Stephanie and Dr.Kerr will assess the amount of coverage needed to give you the appearance you desire.

NeoGraft patients must have a sufficient amount of hair left in the donor site to be considered candidates.

Example of a sufficient donor area (good candidate):

donor site neograft

This is a great example of a sufficient donor site. There is enough hair in the back to take and transplant to balding areas, without impacting the cosmetic appearance of the back of the head. The hair is thick, which would make him an ideal candidate. The thicker the hair, the less hair grafts it takes to cover the balding areas. A patient does not have to have thick hair to qualify as a candidate, however those with thin hair will require more transplanted grafts to to achieve optimal results.

Example of an insufficient donor area (NOT A CANDIDATE):

bad neograft donor site boise

This is an example of someone who is not a candidate for Neograft. There is not enough hair left in the donor site to transplant to the balding areas. The hair is also very thin, which would require a higher number of hair grafts to be transplanted to fully cover each area.
