Top Skin Care Treatments For People in Their 20s

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Mar 3, 2022 12:00:00 AM

20s blog post

It’s never too early to start taking care of your skin. Laying down a good skin care foundation early on in life can help minimize wrinkles, fine lines, skin laxity, sun damage and more. For individuals in their 20s, it’s all about prevention. This can help ensure healthy and youthful looking skin later on in life. Below are some of our top skin care treatments for people in their 20s.

  • BotoxBotox in your 20s can help prevent wrinkles later in life, helping to ensure smoother skin. Botox is a sterile, purified protein injectable that works by relaxing the muscles—reducing muscle activity and gradually preventing the formation of frown lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet. By safely relaxing and blocking the contracting of the muscle, wrinkles will soften and disappear over time.
  • FillerGetting filler in your 20s can be a great option if you are not ready to commit to a surgical procedure but still want the same effect. Filler in the nose, under eyes, lips, cheeks, and chin are popular nonsurgical alternatives.

  • Chemical Peels:The key to younger looking skin is exfoliation. Chemical peels help give the exfoliation process a boost and encourage the rejuvenation of new skin cells.  A peeling agent is applied to the skin that stimulates the outer layer of skin to slough off, revealing the healthier skin beneath it.

  • MicroneedlingMicroneedling uses multiple microscopic needles to penetrate the surface layers of skin, tightening, lifting, and rejuvenating skin by stimulating collagen production. Microneedling helps treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, uneven skin tone and texture, mild to moderate skin laxity, and more.
  • DermaplaningDermaplaning is a cosmetic treatment done with an exfoliating blade, called a dermatome, to remove peach fuzz and dead skin cells. It leaves the skin soft, smooth, and leaves your skin with a more flawless look. Dermaplaning can be beneficial for a deeper penetration of products such as skincare or makeup. Not only does it promote smoother skin, but it diminishes the look of fine lines and removes soft facial hairs that can trap in dirt and oils.
  • Laser Hair RemovalLaser hair removal is a great long-lasting solution for unwanted hair. The earlier you do it, the longer you get to enjoy the results. During the laser hair removal treatment, light is absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and hair follicle, and is converted into heat energy—thereby raising the hair temperature. When the temperature is high enough, irreversible damage occurs to the hair structures which prevents the growth of the hair.

Beautiful skin starts with the right treatments and skincare products. Taking care of your skin is an investment that will pay off in the years to come. To best determine which treatments and products are right for you, we recommend our patients meet with one of our medical aestheticians for a VISIA skin analysis. Jaquelyn Constance—Registered Nurse

Jaquelyn Constance is a registered nurse, who prior to working at Silk Touch, worked as a labor and delivery nurse. Her weekly work schedule varies. Three days a week she spends her time getting patients ready for surgery, circulating in the OR, and spending 30 minutes in recovery monitoring vital signs and managing pain. The other two days she assists Dr. Nealy with consultations, pre-op appointments, surgical follow-ups, and injections. As a registered nurse, Jaquelyn helps start IVs and administer medications to surgery patients. Her favorite part of her job is following patients along their journey from their first consultation to their final follow-up appointment. She loves seeing them gain the confidence that they have always deserved to have.

As a surgical technologist, Randi assists Dr. Nealy with many different things. To help prepare for surgery, Randi gathers all the necessary supplies, equipment and instruments to help the procedure go smoothly. She sets up the back table and mayo stand with instruments that will be needed, while maintaining a proper sterile field throughout surgery to prevent patient infection. During procedures, Randi assists Dr. Nealy by passing instruments and other sterile supplies to him, all while anticipating the needs of the surgical team. What You Need To Know About CO2 DOT Laser Resurfacing

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Jan 6, 2022 12:00:00 AM

Do you struggle with acne scars, wrinkles, or fine lines? Or do you have age spots and sun-damaged skin? If any of these sound like you, you’ve come to the right place. Skin can play a big part in how you feel about yourself, and we think everyone deserves to feel confident in their natural appearance. With our CO2 DOT Laser Resurfacing treatment we can help your skin look new and refreshed, while helping improve the appearance of any trouble areas you may have with your skin.

CO2 Blog

What Is DOT Therapy?

DOT Therapy is an innovative skin resurfacing treatment that uses the SmartXide DOT CO2 Laser System. This treatment precisely removes thin layers of skin, which tightens the skin and stimulates collagen production. The results—rejuvenated, younger looking skin.

How Does It Works?

During the SmartXide DOT CO2 Laser treatment a pattern of small scanned pulses of laser energy is applied to your skin. Thousands of microscopic perforations are created that stimulate skin tightening and collagen growth. DOT Therapy leaves the skin surrounding each dot intact, speeding up healing times and decreasing downtime. Each treatment is customized to your skin by the doctor and adjustments are made depending on the area being treated. A topical anesthesia is applied prior to the treatment to help with any discomfort.

Who Is A Good Candidate?

The CO2 laser is great for individuals who experience signs of sun-damaged skin. This may show itself in pigment irregularities, wrinkles, skin laxity and sagging, and roughness in skin texture. This treatment is also great for those who have stretch marks or acne scars. CO2 DOT Laser Resurfacing can be done on most skin types and can treat skin types of all ages.

What Results Can I Expect?

There’s a reason this treatment has been referred to as the “Gold Standard'' for non-surgical facial rejuvenation and removal of facial skin wrinkles and photoaging since 1995. Though improvements have been made, the results are still the same. You can expect a significant improvement in the appearance of your skin, and the treatment has even been said to give the appearance of a mini facelift without incisions. CO2 DOT Laser Resurfacing stimulates the production of collagen while tightening the skin which creates long lasting results with just one treatment.

Additional Benefits:

  • Reverses the appearance of aged and sun-damaged skin
  • Improves texture and firmness
  • Smooths wrinkles and lines
  • Renews your skin
  • Downtime adjustable by a physician

If you are interested in learning more about CO2 DOT Laser Resurfacing give us a call at 208-939-3110. We can help you schedule a consultation to discuss your skin goals and see if this treatment is right for you.

Achieving the Ultimate Chin Contour

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Dec 16, 2021 12:00:00 AM

A strong, defined chin is often associated with attractive facial features for men and women alike. For some, a prominent facial contour does not naturally occur, and for these individuals, implants or filler can be a great solution. But how do you know which is the better option for you? Understanding each solution is a great first step.

Chin Enhancement

The Surgical Solution

Chin enhancement surgery, or genioplasty, is the surgical placement of a facial implant under the skin to create a stronger, more prominent appearance of the chin. Not only does this procedure improve facial contour, but it also helps create a better balance between facial features. Facial implants come in all different shapes and sizes, and are typically made of silicone or a similar material.

This surgery is an outpatient procedure that requires the use of general anesthesia. The procedure itself can take as little as an hour to perform and has relatively short down time—patients can generally return to normal activities within a week. The great thing about taking the surgical route is chin enhancement is a permanent one time procedure with immediate results.

Fix it With Filler

Filler is an injectable gel that a skilled provider injects into the face to temporarily create a plumper and more full appearance. Chin filler is a great non-surgical option if you are not ready to commit to a permanent fix, but want to test out what you would look like with a chin augmentation. Filler lasts up to a year, is safe, and has immediate results.

The process of receiving filler lasts only a matter of minutes. For most patients, one treatment is required, though some may need additional treatments to achieve or maintain the desired appearance. With filler, there is little downtime. Individuals may experience swelling or bruising, but these side effects will subside on their own within a few days.

Chin Enhancement at Silk Touch

So what’s the best option? Well that comes down to personal preference. If you are interested in chin augmentation and are needing help making the best decision for you then we suggest starting with a consultation. To schedule yours give us a call at 208-939-3110 or visit us online.

5 Tips to Minimize Post-op Scarring

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Dec 2, 2021 12:00:00 AM

Minimizing Scars Blog

A big concern for many patients when getting surgery is scarring. More specifically, how noticeable the scarring will be. It’s inevitable that with incisions there will be scars. Doctors can be strategic with the placement, size, and type of incisions made to help hide potential scarring, but how your scars heal is mainly determined by how you care for them. Good post-op care is crucial to achieve thin, flat and faded scars. While we can’t promise your scars won’t be visible, we can give you our 5 tips that can help minimize the appearance of scarring after surgery.

  1. Avoid exposure to sunlight: Exposure to the sun's UV rays has the potential to cause hyperpigmentation on your scar, which can alter your scar’s appearance. To avoid this, always apply sunscreen, especially when direct sunlight to your scar can’t be avoided.
  2. Avoid smoking and alcohol: Nicotine reduces blood flow which in return delays or prolongs healing. Alcohol dehydrates the body, which can affect your overall health. Both affect the health of your body, and when your body isn’t healthy the healing process can lengthen.
  3. Massage your scar: A few weeks after your surgery begin massaging your incisions and the surrounding area to reduce inflammation, and even out any lumps or bumps under the skin that may cause poor scar healing.
  4. Apply Silicone: Silicone gel or sheets applied to scars has been found to increase hydration, normalize collagen production, and reduce hypertrophic scarring (thick pink scars).
  5. Avoid Tension: Moving, lifting, or stretching in ways that put added tension and stress on your healing scars can widen and thicken the appearance of the scar, and in some instances can prolong healing.

Along with these tips, following the wound care instructions provided by your doctor will help ensure proper healing. Once the incisions have healed it can take months to years for the scars to fade. They won't be completely gone, but they can be less noticeable.

For some patients, genetics can play a part in how your scars heal. Be sure to address any concerns you may have with your doctor. If you are interested in one of our cosmetic surgery procedures, take the first step and schedule a consultation by calling us at 208-939-3110 or visiting us online.

5 Tips for Keeping Your Skin Healthy This Winter

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Nov 18, 2021 12:00:00 AM

Winter Skincare

The winter months can do a number on your skin. That’s why it’s so important to give your skin the proper care it needs to keep it hydrated, glowing, and looking its best. Below are our 5 top tips for preparing your skin for the winter:

  1. Stay hydrated. Hydration is key in the colder months so making sure you drink lots of water is important. Hydrating your body from the inside allows your skin on the outside to stay hydrated as well. Our aestheticians also suggest doing a hydrating mask once a week, like the Epionce Enriched Firming Mask, to help keep dry skin away.
  2. Wear sunscreen. Though the sun may not be out as much as the summer months, you are still at risk of sun damage. Not only is the ozone layer thinner in the winter, but snow and ice reflect sunlight, intensifying the sun's UV rays and damaging your skin. Wearing sunscreen year round, and especially during the winter, can help protect your skin.
  3. Moisturize. The cold, dry air can make your skin extra sensitive during colder months. Investing in a good moisturizer can help prevent red, itchy, or dry skin. Along with a good face moisturizer, applying lotion to the rest of your body (especially your hands) and wearing chapstick can help prevent dry, cracked skin in other areas too.
  4. Nourish your body. Eating the right foods helps provide your body with essential vitamins and nutrients to help you achieve supple, clear, glowing skin. Healthy fats, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, and maintaining an overall healthy diet can help prepare your skin for the harsh winter months.
  5. Try out a new treatment. Sometimes our skin needs a little help and that’s okay! We offer a wide variety of treatments that can help you achieve your skin goals. Wondering which treatments are best for the winter? Try a laser treatment or a hydrating oxygeneo.

Revamp Your Skin With ResurFX

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Nov 4, 2021 12:00:00 AM

Do acne scars continue to bother you? Is your skin looking dull and discoloration a problem? ResurFX might be the solution for you. ResurFX is a non-ablative fractional laser that stimulates collagen production, tightens and retextures the skin.

ResurFX Blog

This state-of-the-art skin resurfacing treatment uses non-ablative technology which means it does not destroy or ablate the skin cells. The use of a fractional laser makes it so that only a small percentage of the skin is affected. Over time, each ResurFX laser treatment works gently to make natural improvements to the skin. In comparison to the CO2 laser treatment, ResurFX has little downtime, is more gentle, and takes just one pass of the laser.

ResurFX treats:

  • Skin Discoloration
  • Improves Texture/Tone
  • Increases Collagen
  • Reduces Stretch Marks
  • Improves Acne Scars
  • Improves the Appearance of Wrinkles

The ResurFX laser works by targeting the deep layers of the dermis with heat—stimulating collagen production. Treatments take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete. Some patients experience mild discomfort so a topical cream is used for numbing the treated area. For most patients, 3 to 5 treatments are required to achieve desired results. It’s important to continue to avoid direct sunlight and to continue to wear sunscreen to protect your skin following your treatment. The results? Brighter, more youthful looking skin.

Want to know how ResurFX can transform your skin? Book a consultation and VISIA Skin Analysis with one of our skilled aestheticians today to see if ResurFX is right for you!

Do Breast Implants Need To Be Replaced?

Posted by Silk Touch Cosmetic Surgery on Oct 21, 2021 12:00:00 AM

Breast augmentation can be a great way for women who are small-chested, or who have previously breastfed, to improve the shape, fullness, size and appearance of their breasts. With different implant sizes and materials, there is bound to be an option for everyone. The big question for many patients when deciding to get implants is “How long do they last?” If this is something you’ve wondered then you are in the right place.

Implant Blog Post

In the past, implants had to be replaced every ten years due to things like typical wear, rupture, or leaking. With advancements in the quality of implants, they now last forever! Breast augmentation is now a one and done treatment, as long as no issues arise with your implants indicating that reoperation is necessary.

Dr. Nealy recommends routine annual mammograms and frequent self-checks to ensure the implants are still intact. In addition, he recommends patients who have received a breast augmentation get an MRI every three years to evaluate the implant for signs of rupture. Because of the improved quality of current implants, it is nearly impossible to tell if they have ruptured in a physical exam alone.

If you have received breast implants in the past, and are unsure if your implants will need to be replaced, it’s important to check with your provider. Older implants often are replaced every ten years. At Silk Touch, we offer implant removal and replacement for patients who previously received implants.

For those of you who are interested in breast augmentation surgery or are wanting more information on the procedure, be sure to give us a call at 208-939-3110 to schedule a consultation!
